In 2014 I took over the maintenance of two UBIMET websites with very high traffic: wetter.tv is a widely known weather service and uwz.at a storm warning site including paid subscription services. Both sites were to be replaced as soon as possible (and already have been), but needed necessary fixes, additional features and adaptions for banner advertizing and improved performance scalability to allow a smooth transition period that lastet about three years.
This project gave me a great opportunity to dive into big server clusters with multiple database and web nodes, distributed workloads across servers, high performance hosting and caching optimizations.
